The Ely Carol Book
Ely Choral Society's work to promote music and singing within the local community as part of its charitable status has seen the society set up a youth choir in 2010, and is now expanding further with the publication of its first carol book. We are delighted to be able to make it available to buy via this website.
The book is a 48 page, A4 selection of local carols produced by Debora Cane, a member of the society, who has also produced a special image for the front of the book. The book has been compiled, arranged and edited by our conductor Andrew Parnell (who has also contributed four of the carols). These carols have either been composed for the society and previously performed at our concerts or are composed by people with a close association with the society, and feature both new settings and tunes for well known words as well as brand new compositions. The list of carols contained within the book is:
Adam lay ybounden Andrew Parnell
Amor! Quam dulcis est amor! (Sweet love!) Andrew Parnell
Angels, from the realms of glory David Ford
At the winter solstice (Lantern carol, poem by Wendy Cope) Andrew Parnell
Girls and boys, leave your toys (Zither carol) Paul Trepte
I came from hevin heich (Balulalow) Andrew Parnell
I sing of a maiden Tim Alban Jones
Lully, lulla (The Coventry Carol) Dr Arthur Wills OBE
Sleep, little Jesus, sleep Mark Liversidge
The first Nowell David Ford
When the herds were watching John Lawson Baker
Copies of the book cost £5 each, plus a total cost of £1.95 postage and packing per order, regardless of the number of copies ordered. All proceeds are reinvested in the society's ongoing work to bring music to the local community through our concerts and other activities.
